County of Santa Clara and CarCharging to Offer Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Services to Public
Twelve Charging Stations Installed at County Government Building Parking Lot

The County has designated 12 parking spaces for EV charging use by County employees or the public.

Over the years, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors has launched a number of initiatives aimed at protecting the environment. These initiatives include an ordinance to ban single-use plastic bags at supermarkets in unincorporated areas, an e-Stewards Recycling Ordinance which regulates e-waste collection in the unincorporated area and encourages proper management of electronic waste, and establishing an Office of Sustainability to support achievement of the County's energy conservation goals. Earlier this year, the county celebrated the completion of the County's 5.6-megawatt Solar Photovoltaic Project, which includes the installation of photovoltaic systems at eight County sites. The new EV charging stations are located under one of the new solar canopies at the civic center parking lot site.

Electric vehicles already on the market include the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, BMW ActiveE, Ford Focus Electric, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Coda, Tesla Model S, and Fisker Karma. Additional electric vehicle models are expected to be available later this year.
